Raised in Belleville and Freeburg, Illinois, Baker developed an early passion for learning and leadership. He demonstrated academic and extracurricular excellence throughout his youth, earning recognition in writing, spelling, and student leadership roles. He graduated from Freeburg Community High School in 2002 before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Southeast Missouri State University in 2006, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society for educators. He later earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2011. Baker’s career began in the classroom as a teacher and coach, where he developed innovative instructional strategies and fostered student growth. He later moved into administrative leadership, serving as principal and athletic director in multiple school districts, including roles in Sparta District 140, Central School District 104, and Granite City School District 9. In addition to his school leadership roles, Baker has worked as an instructional coach and consultant with the Illinois State Board of Education and Regional Office of Education 51, supporting educators and school systems in improving instructional practices. One of his notable professional achievements includes writing and securing a $500,000 grant from the Department of Defense, demonstrating his ability to develop impactful programs and secure resources that benefit students and schools.
